Not that I have the money to actually buy an iPhone, but this was the discussion at work yesterday. Call it a geek debate, if you will, but a few co-workers were so against the iPhone I could see the veins popping on their foreheads. The main reason given for being against buying an iPhone-it isn’t worth the price. Well, what phone is worth over $500? None, if you ask me. With the prices of mobile cell phones on the rise, many sites are now discussing the best phones and prices.
Discusswireless.com offers a forum, (a very nice feature), for owners and those considering a certain brand of phone, to discuss the pros and cons. What did the site say about the iPhone? While the features are nice, the price along with the abundant issues associated with the iPhone crashing are things to consider before buying. The only way I would buy one is is someone gave me $600. Also, the site is offering a 5% discount on any phone purchased through PureMobile.com. Go to this page, Compare Unlocked Cell Phone Prices for more information.
What are your thoughts? Are cell phones with all the bells and whistles worth the higher prices?
To Buy, Or Not To Buy An Apple iPhone.
Win 100 Credits For EntreCard.com
To thank all of you who have accepted my blog and for dropping cards, I have decided to run a small contest. A very simple contest. Write a post telling everyone how EntreCard has helped you find new blogs, increased your traffic and has been an overall fun site. To submit, comment, or send a trackback with the URL of the post by Saturday, December 15th, 6pm Eastern Time, (US).I will assign all entries a number and use Random.org to choose the winner to make it fair to everyone who enters the contest. The winning blogger will then be sent 100 EntreCard credits from yours truly.
I encourage everyone to participate, if not in this contest, but on EntreCard, by visiting blogs, commenting and advertising. When you read a blog-don’t just drop your card and run- read a few posts and if you have anything to contribute, comment. Visit the blog which is advertising on any particular blog as well and do the same. This is what blogging is about-it isn’t about yourself and how many hits you receive a day, it’s about interacting with your readers and appreciating the time it takes to read a post-even if a comment isn’t made. For the niche blogs-expand your readership and reading by allowing blogs outside of your normal topics to advertise. Unless the blog contains content you highly disagree with, don’t reject. The one aspect I have found surprising since starting with the site, smaller blogs have higher rejection rates against other bloggers than the more notable, such as John Chow, John Cow and Tyler Cruz. EntreCard will work for you, if you work for EntreCard. Most of us have complained about not receiving enough traffic, or readers-now is our chance. Expand your blog and the blogs you typically read. You never know, you may find one you enjoy. Also, John Chow is gracing my sidebar today until noon. Visit his site, contribute if you have something relevant to say,(do NOT comment with “hi,nice blog,” very rude), and drop a card. And enter the contest!
The Tech World Is Full Of Testosterone.
By 5pm yesterday, I had the urge to scratch my privates, spit and look at breasts. Yes, I started my new job and guess what? For now, I’m the only female in the building. I do know another woman was interviewed yesterday and 2 others haven’t moved from the old office yet, but come on. Oh, and there is one bathroom. What am I going to do if I have to do the, well, female necessities thing? Take a deep breath, Beth, it’s a damn good job and I better get the raise I was told about in 3 months.
Yesterday consisted of me and another new guy sitting at terminals learning how to take pizza orders. I know one thing- I could never work at a Pizza Hut, especially one in Canada. Those Canadians have more toppings than we do in the US-I was surprised I didn’t see moose as a choice. Overall though, the day was semi-productive. I’m having to re-learn networking since it’s been so long since I’ve used any of my “knowledge” and wouldn’t you know it- the guy training with me went to college for Information Systems. He never said he graduated, but I can bet my butt he’s getting paid more. I’ll show him who’s more intelligent. Me.
I apologize for not responding to comments last night, but DreamHost, the best damn web host in the world (insert sarcasm here), had hardware issues with the server this site is hosted on. After 2 hours of waiting, like the tech guy said to do, I gave up, went to bed and woke up at 3am. This is going to be one hell of a long day. Thank you, Xanax and I believe I’ll drive through McDonald’s this morning and get an iced coffee. I need a kick if I’m going to last until 5:30pm. Now, I must shower, do the makeup thing and hair. I was planning on shaving my legs-but screw it, I’m not expecting I’ll have to take my jeans off for anyone. At least I hope not.
I also had extreme blogging withdrawals yesterday. I need an intervention.
My Dream Geek Project For The New Year.
I have been wanting to build my own PC for years now, I’ve just never had the money to do so. I was once obsessed with browsing TigerDirect.com and NewEgg.com, putting together all the components I would need. Last night, I was thinking about bringing my desktop here, from my mother’s house, then thought, ok it needs a hard drive. Then, the browsing began. I found that TigerDirect had lower prices than NewEgg and all of the components I’ve chosen so far come from there. I still need to decide the graphics, sound, memory etc., but I have the primary items picked:
- The case. I have no reason for choosing and LED case other than the fact- it’s damn pretty to look at. I wish I could find pink LED -but alas, I’ve yet to come across any. If someone knows where I can find them tell me. I like the blue, it gives it a stylish look, but pink would be more, me. Here are the specs and below is the picture of the case: Case Specs
- I went with the combo motherboard/CPU. I know, the lazy way to go about it but it does end up less expensive. The CPU is a 3.0ghz Pentium D-here are the specs: Motherboard/CPU Specs
- For the hard drive I wanted retail so I wouldn’t have to buy the screws, brackets etc. I’m going with 160GB- that’s all I need and I don’t see the point in anything more. Plus, it’s a good deal. Here are the specs: Hard Drive Specs
- I’m adding the hard drive cooler and CPU fan together. If anyone has a suggestion on a CPU fan, let me know. I went with the least expensive in case it was difficult to install or broke etc. I went with a little more expensive HD cooler. Here are the specs:
Hard drive cooler, CPU Cooler. - The last item on my list to this point is the DVD Burner. Again, I don’t burn DVDs, (at least not yet), so I really don’t need something extremely expensive. Here are the specs: DVD Burner

That is my dream geeky project for 2008. I would love to be able to afford to build this by Summer at least. If anyone has suggestions or recommendations- let me know, I’m open to knew ideas and products. God Bless the geek in all of us.
