Project Joyful Heart

Instead of raising money for gifts this year through the Lions Club, I have decided to challenge myself and you- the bloggers, tech geeks, people who randomly come upon my blog via Google, Bing, Yahoo and MSN- to raise $250 for the The Joyful Heart Foundation, a foundation started by Mariska Hargitay, of Law and Order SVU. The Foundation strives to heal, educate and empower those who have endured domestic violence, sexual abuse, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual assault. Please visit the website and learn about their unique approach in dealing with these often times overlooked and forgotten issues.

100% of the money raised through this challenge will go to the Foundation- and I will supply proof once I have the final tally.

A Good-Bye To Over 4 Years Of My Life.

Who knew, way back in December of 2004, the impact this little blog would have on my life. Although I had been keeping an online journal, (LiveJournal), since 2002, I never fully revealed myself. From the meaning behind the domain name, afrogtokiss, to the actual title of the blog, bits and pieces of me were coming forth. Not only to the almost 1.3 million people who have passed by, but, more importantly, to me. The post you are reading will be the last on my “blog about nothing.”

A New Direction For This Blog.

I know I have not been updating this blog as much as I once did. Sometimes, life gets in the way and so does one’s direction. I have a new project in the works-in fact, I received my first comment this morning and only a handful of people know about it- so it is being indexed. I’m not ready to reveal the blog and I may not until the end of the project. It’s more personal than my little blog here has ever been and for that reason I’m staying anonymous for now.

With Google cracking down on blogs with “non-quality content,” I’ve become a bit jaded with the blogging process. I think anyone who shares their stories, their lives, knowledge- is contributing. The sad fact- too many people believe they can be, or are, professional bloggers. My belief is- blog for yourself first, be true to who you are and you’ll gain readers. Don’t blog on the hopes of making money or becoming famous-this isn’t blogging, it’s called journalism.

Way To Go Britain-You’re Not So Great At All.

Ok, I get it. People are sick of hearing about Susan Boyle, but after watching the live feed of the results from Britain’s Got Talent, I thank goodness I’m an American. For a country, who, in the past, has viewed Americans as shallow, you proved, with voting the dance group the winner, who, sure, is talented, but not the best, that you’re petty and cold-hearted.

The smear campaign against Susan worked. You won. All the negative remarks about her looks, the probable lies, (or embellished remarks), of her reactions to media, swayed millions to vote against her. Why? This woman has been pushed aside her entire life and job well done. You pushed her aside once again. But guess what? Susan will have the last laugh. She may not have won the money, or to perform for the Queen, what she did manage to do, however, is win the hearts of millions of people around the world. You should have been proud of this fact and realized how special she is to those who have put off their dreams. Here in America, we root for the underdog.

I’ll probably receive heat from those across the ocean for this post, but I can’t help it that it sickens me to see the emotional ride the woman went through. Come to the US, Susan. We’ll show you the respect you deserve.
