Way To Go Britain-You’re Not So Great At All.
Ok, I get it. People are sick of hearing about Susan Boyle, but after watching the live feed of the results from Britain’s Got Talent, I thank goodness I’m an American. For a country, who, in the past, has viewed Americans as shallow, you proved, with voting the dance group the winner, who, sure, is talented, but not the best, that you’re petty and cold-hearted.
The smear campaign against Susan worked. You won. All the negative remarks about her looks, the probable lies, (or embellished remarks), of her reactions to media, swayed millions to vote against her. Why? This woman has been pushed aside her entire life and job well done. You pushed her aside once again. But guess what? Susan will have the last laugh. She may not have won the money, or to perform for the Queen, what she did manage to do, however, is win the hearts of millions of people around the world. You should have been proud of this fact and realized how special she is to those who have put off their dreams. Here in America, we root for the underdog.
I’ll probably receive heat from those across the ocean for this post, but I can’t help it that it sickens me to see the emotional ride the woman went through. Come to the US, Susan. We’ll show you the respect you deserve.

It is really too bad the way she was treated. In a way she probably got overexposed with all of the attention she received and people became too jealous of her. It was fine when people did not really know who she was, but once she went on the talk shows and celebrities began talking her up, you knew the downfall was coming. Unfortunately there are too many people in the world that do not like to see others succeed.

Well, despite the outcome, she’ll have success. A singer-you can go see, or buy their CDs. Dancers-unless they go on to choreograph -what more can they do?
You really didn’t see that one coming? I knew they weren’t going to let her win. They have shuffled off other people in the same way before. But the contest is really not important. Just as with the Idol stuff, it’s about what they do once they have that foot in the door.
I guess I had a little more confidence that people could see beyond the exterior and go for the gift she’s been given. She just wanted to perform for the Queen. We don’t get ITV here in the US and I was lucky to find the site that had the live streaming video-I’ve only viewed clips from YouTube. I don’t consider either country’s version of Idol a talent contest-and stopped watching it after the first season. And you’re right, once they’re in the door, the losers have had more success-hell, Jennifer Hudson has a freaking Oscar and she was voted off Idol (don’t know what place).
I so loved to watch her sing. She brought such a smile to my face. I agree, let her come here.
Same with me, etta. They said she came along at a time when the world needed something to smile about- maybe our smiles were a little bigger.
Ben- she does deserve respect and sorry you don’t “agree” with my comment but, as I stated- we can all agree to disagree. Good God, don’t make this an international incident. Piers whatever his last name is, has already said she would have success here in the US-and that’s a huge statement.
Susan and I are having a beer RIGHT NOW and watching a Sean Connery film-a-thon. She’s cool:)

Don’t let Piers find out- he may kick your kitty-ass.
DITTO!!!! Great post. I feel so patriotic!

I thought the dance group were deserved winners. Their dancer/choreographer is very inventive, charismatic and evidently ambitious.
Susan can do better than anyone else who has ever come second in a show like this, if she can stand the pace.
And I’ve said it before, in my humble thingie, she’s a good singer but not a great one and I knew the tunes she sings pretty pretty well.

If you notice-you mention their main choreographer as being “inventive charismatic and ambitious.” What about the others in the group? Dancing can only take one so far.
Yes she can and will do better than anyone from any talent themed show- from either side of the ocean- if the media would lay off her. I find it sick, knowing her background, that anyone would purposely seek her out just to hound her to get a “story.” I can’t remember if it was Simon or Piers who said she wasn’t the normal type of contestant. She was called Simple Susan through school because of learning disabilities, has spent her whole life in a tiny village in Scotland basically sheltered from how cruel the world can really be-yet the media and people took this in stride and bashed her anyway for having a dream. Americans fell in love with her-despite the challenges she has faced in life, she had the guts to go for it-to pursue her dream. This country was founded upon dreams- maybe this is why we’re more likely to root for the underdog.
Ok- you’re familiar with theatre-you know the songs, (as do I), and how you can say she’s “a good singer but not a great one,” is beyond me. To sing as she does- one has to be born with the ability and then build upon it through training. I took voice when I was a kid-I could sing and hit the right notes-but all the training in the world would never have given me that type of voice. (And believe me, I tried my damndest)
I guess you and Andrew Lloyed Webber can disagree with one another.
What happened to my my pithy little comment?:(

Sorry kitty dude- the spam catcher is working oddly this morning- it’s catching Ken’s comments as spam too-but only caught this one of yours.
I was trying to make everyone feel better – Boyle is at our house having a beer and eating Cheezits – she’s cool:)

Disagreement is constructive and fun. Creativity is born of conflict of opinion and view. Your opinion is valid and most probably right, you know your stuff.
I still stand over my opinion, which I compliment myself on being pretty unbiased. A good singer, not a great – I think it’s the timbre of her voice that makes the songs sound a little harsh. To anyone reading to who hasn’t, I suggest listening to her voice without looking at her, see if you don’t see what I mean.
I guess I did overpraise the lead man in the winning act – he impressed me – but who can say they can’t dance, all of them?
My history on these things is dubious anyway – I reckoned the first winner, Paul Potts, was a good but not great singer too – and he’s sold a few million more than me.

That’s it Irish-dude, suck up
Just like you-I stand by mine. We all have different views, tastes, etc., and I don’t find her voice harsh at all. I see, (ok, hear) it as a voice that should have been on Broadway years ago. Had she been given the chance at a younger age, maybe she would have learned how to control the timbre of her voice-you have to remember the acoustics in the building itself probably isn’t the best for musical theatre voices-pop and other genres yes.
I’ve never said the winning act wasn’t talented-I don’t think they’re as talented. That’s it.
I liked Paul Potts-although he didn’t receive the same reception here as Susan, we still heard about him and watched him on YouTube. I just can’t help but wonder why the media was and still is so hell-bent in finding everything and anything they can to belittle Susan- I don’t remember it with him.
Things are difficult all over the world and I’ve given though to the possibility that maybe, America helped, unknowingly, in her loss. With job losses, banks failing, gas prices soaring again,-Susan comes along and we instantly felt a connection-a hope and a release. She lifted our spirits. Remember-we don’t get ITV here, and our only source was YouTube.
Piers was on Good Morning America this morning and discussed her condition-saying she was exhausted. I can say-I didn’t like the man, (he does our version of the show too, and was recently on Celebrity Apprentice, and I loathed him-and I only saw bits and pieces of the show), but I will say-I give him kudos for sticking by Susan and defending her- it shows he isn’t the rude, pompous ass I thought he was-he truly cares for her well-being.
Holy hell that’s a long response.
I should also add- I rooted for her because she’s Scottish too. I have to stick by my ancestral heritage.
Susan Boyle is the true winner anyway – Simon already signed her up, she’s set up for life.
Those boys, on the other hand… it’s very difficult to find a job when you have 20 members or so in a group, each needing to be paid. It’s something of a break for them, they can each buy a second hand car or smth, the queens sees them, they’re a little bit happier. Let it go, the judges have made the right choice
Normally, I don’t get into any of the reality shows, some of them just seem to bring out the wrong side of folks, the side I’d rather pretend didn’t exist. However, after reading your post and recognizing her name, I decided to YouTube her and see for myself what all the hub-bub was all about. The first vid I viewed was her rendition of ‘Killing Me Softly’… great presentation but it was a bit dated and my first thoughts were possibly that her voice wasn’t as powerful.
But when I viewed and heard her sing ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ I was so totally blown away; I was both happy and crying at the same time[tears were flowing uncontrollably]. That performance was dazzling, unlifting … endearing. If I was there, I would have given that lady the hug of her life.
Although, she didn’t win on that show, she has won the notice of such a huge segment of the world … I just know ‘good things’ will be coming her way. She has literally touched the hearts of millions in such a profound way, that can not be diminished or denied. Her voice and the impact it has made on the world is simply phenomenonal.
And how does such an incredible voice get so completely overlooked in the first place?
Thanks for the amazing post…8o)

No, I haven’t heard of the site because I don’t watch American Idol. I never said other countries didn’t do the same- we have here in the US, but, for the most part, we go for the underdog who has the talent. The UK and the US could argue the outcome until we were blue in the face and I would still say- ya got it wrong.
Exactly where did I make the statement that all of the UK was responsible? I discussed her critics and those who tried to bring her down- not once did I say EVERYONE in the UK was responsible. I just said- “ya got it wrong.” Come on, Ben, you should know me a little better by now. I’m always the advocate for the underdog.
