I’d Like To Thank The Spammers From India and Russia.

Without you, most of my visitors would be from the United States. In the last 2 weeks, however, I have observed a spike in hits from India and Russia. My blog is truly international. And the comments? Well, at least you’re polite and say, “Sorry, but…” before leaving 50 links to who knows what types of websites. Are you being paid per link, or, per comment? I think you all need a raise-in fact, tell your boss to contact me. It is too bad I have 2 spam measures in place, (one being Akismet), to prevent 99.9% of the comments from actually going through. You work so hard, typing your little fingers off for the sake of male enhancement products and where to buy prescription drugs online.

I’m also impressed by one person who has attempted to meet the required 3 comments before you’re “followed,” but, alas, I’ve had to send your remarks to the spam folder. Nice try-your IP and domains have been added to the ban list.

Oh-if you’re name happens to be Cash, How To Make Money, Drugs4U, or anything of the like and you do leave a relevant comment, I’m still sending it to the spam graveyard. Aliases are fine, but don’t overdo it.

Most of those spammers are really stupid as there posts can be spotted easily. With the amount of time they spend they would see a better from getting a few good links instead.

Akismet is very effective in blocking out junk but sometimes they overdo it. Do you have a plug-in that blocks certain keywords being used in name. I got one of my blogs on keywordluv because I didn’t like talking to ‘keywords’ :) )

BTW, why do you think these spammers are typing the comments? I am sure most of them are bots.

    • Beth says:

I think a few are typed, but comments I had coming in from one IP address were definitely a bot-and I’m now blocking the IP via my .htaccess file. Lucia’s Linky Love will block names with keywords, but using it is a little risky because someone who is legitimate would be caught as spam.

      • Jeet says:

Well, I use Akismet and many times some genuine comments or inquiries get stuck in spam queue.

I guess there should be some auto-check if you receive more than 3 comments from same IP within 5 minutes a captcha must be solved :)

Also I used WP Spamfree plugin, it captures anything that akimet doesn’t catch.

I suggest those spammers forget Wordpress, its tools are very effective.
    Cheers

I’ll have to take a look at the WP Spamfree plugin-actually hadn’t heard of it until now. Askimet is good-for a long time WordPress itself was catching more spam, but it’s spring break in a lot of places, plus people are doing a lot of spamming to earn money these days, (I was sent an email asking if I’d be willing- I may be broke, but not desperate), so there seems to be more spam comments- and emails.

LOL – I’ve found your blog through a visit card at the bla.st network and I have to say you live up to your wording at the ‘card’ :D

I’ve got a lot of spam using B2Evolution, but since I’ve change to WorpdPress, I hardly get anything any more.

I too uses a couple of plugin’s and so far they seems very effective.

    Keep on blogging :)

That’s one issue with Akismet- having to go through 50 spam comments to make sure a legitimate comment hasn’t been caught.
