My hat off to you. Being a moderator is not an easy job, and mostly thankless. I know because I was a paid on line moderator for years…for chats and boards.
I was unpaid and there is so much more to the story.
sorry to see you go…i wish you would at least still be part of the EC community though
you are right though, you work to hard for no pay…way too hard…and folks are just not being kind right now…at all.

Funny- I suddenly have an influx of people wanting to advertise on my site- now that I’m gone? I don’t even have the widget up people. And Matt- I’ve tried being a part of the community- since the beginning. I’m tired of people who think they know it all, when in reality- they don’t. I’ll still blog- but I won’t be apart of a community with no direction and no respect for those who have worked freaking hard for nothing.

This whole situation was unfortunate and got out of hand very quickly. We try to do our best under normal situations, but when changes are going to be involved there will always be those that want to be heard over everyone else and get very indignant and vocal. It’s too bad that people don’t try and see other’s view points or try to understand because all they hear is the voice in their own head. I certainly hope the best for Entrecard and they were lucky to have you as moderator for as long as you were, so sorry you felt the need to leave. All the best.

Being heard is one thing- being ignorant is another. I’ve been there and I was there- the changes would have had an effect on my blog as well- more so for those of us in the “Mixed Bag” or non-niche blogs. Most of the words being thrown were not facts-some were making stuff up in their own minds and wouldn’t read what we were trying to tell them.
I’m not mad at any one person, ok I take that back, I’m a little peeved at one in particular- not a regular EC member. Now that I’m away from there- I can say- the Mods? We knew the new feature was coming-we had little input other than the “scroll rule” and guess how we received the announcement? Just like everyone else- we had no warning, no, “Hey, we’re announcing the new feature, get ready to answer questions.” So we were left with people replying to the message, sending tickets in to cancel their accounts, mainly due to the above the fold issue and today.com blogs-which, and I can prove it, I brought up in our “meeting,” last week. As moderators we decided to put the above the fold tickets on hold- hoping we could clarify and possibly change the mandate. The uproar on the forums was caused due to the fact many would not even read what we were saying to them and yes I did point out a few things about someone- I don’t have to prove anything- I have nothing to gain, I was showing the fact- people find it ok to pay a “fee” in writing paid posts, but a hefty fee, but taking credits-which aren’t money is horrible.
Beth I know you are mad at me but look at it from my point. I was wrongly accused of something I did not do so of course I was upset. But the fallout from that was worse. Graham told me to pack my bags and leave so I did. Now they are spamming my email. But that is besides the point. They lost your blog and my blogs and caused a lot of hard feelings.
I have nothing against you personally and certainly will visit your blog in future. At this point I don’t even care anymore. I have all this extra free time so I can visit and comment on the blogs I enjoy. I know we have had our differences but I’m offering an olive branch so please accept it in the spirit it is intended whether or not you publish my reply.
Thanks for reading. One of these days our blogs will cross paths again.

Until your comment I knew nothing about anything being said on the forums after I removed the widget and canceled all ads. What Graham said was beyond out of line. I hold nothing against you personally, which is why I tried to resolve issues privately. However, you kept bringing it to the public forums. For this reason and this reason only, is why I had to not only show, but state what I feel is the truth. Do I care anymore? No. Graham will hear what I have to say tonight-he e-mailed me basically begging me to come back and we’re supposed to have a meeting. He will get an earful, or, an eyeful.
I accept the olive branch, but I still stand by my convictions. I extend my own branch as well.
I’m fairly new to Entrecard, and I was weighing whether the time was even worth it, but now my decision is made for me! Gnome, your last comment to Beth was quite noble. In my opinion, she should have simply apologized for her mistake and that would have been that.
Of course the behavior of the admins and owner especially are disappointing to say the least. I might even say shocking. I’m betting most of the Entrecard’s bloggers will ditch them on principle just for Graham’s nasty comment. A supremely stupid (not to mention incorrect and rude) thing to say.

Wren, I believe I assisted you with something via the ticket system. Was I ever rude to you? No, I wasn’t. Don’t come to my blog stating I should apologize, when both of us were in the wrong. As for the Graham-read my response to Garden Gnome. As for previous moderators now coming out of the woodwork and stating their opinions on the entire issue- ask them why they are no longer moderators. I left EC a few months after it started because of a few of the mods not taking action against members when threads needed closed etc. I do a job and I’m bashed for doing it. You’re new to EC- I can’t even count on one hand how many moderators have been in-and out in the year+ it’s been a service. None of you know what goes on behind the scenes. For 2 weeks, I worked support tickets alone-with no help, no response on where to find information, how to do certain things etc., until I found an ex-mod who helped tremendously. There are always two sides to every story.

I was a part of the forums last year til some people decided to get all bitchy with me because of miscommunication. I was also a fan of Lee Doyle and he was a mod for awhile til the asses decided he wasn’t worthy enough for him anymore. Sounds like a lot of people are dropping out of EC. That is too bad, I have met a lot of great people on the site. I was wondering where your widget was when I tried to drop on it!

I’ve canned it on my blog now. It was good to start with as a way to discover some interesting blogs I may not have otherwise. But it became a futile exercise dropping cards on the same blogs over and over, half of which were junk. I scaled back to just dropping on a few favourites for a while but now its gone altogether.

That’s the problem with how EC works. All people cared about were getting credits to promote their blogs- when really, the best way to promote is to comment and participate on other blogs. I tried in the beginning to tell people this- but no one wanted to listen. Traffic doesn’t make a blog successful- the readers do.
There are very many people from EC that have no clue.Just getting a drop from EC really does nothing for one’s site at all other than a higher bounce rate.Engaging your readers in someway will do so much more.Anxiously awaiting the day you tell your side of the story.
