Attention All Legitimate Looking Spammers.

I believe in the Do-Follow movement. However, in comments, this is becoming a huge problem, especially on this blog. I am not in the business to give you free advertising for your store, products, or services. I’m glad you read my blog- really and most do contribute in commenting. However, from this date forward I will delete any links pointing to specific pages on blogs and regular websites. See the boxes on the sidebar? If you want your products advertised, hence possibly raising your PR, (I personally don’t care about PR any longer), you can either purchase a one month 125×125 ad spot for $10, or, go through Project Wonderful and pay depending on the bidding, which does not go above .50 cents a day. (The average is .20 cents depending on who is bidding and the spot). These spots are no-follow-this is my decision. However, think of it this way, if you truly want product/service/blog exposure, this little ole blog still receives 1000 hits a day and oddly enough 208 feed readers even though I haven’t updated much since April. I’m always open to negotiation of prices and I’m not difficult to work with. Your choice- face deletion, or advertise the honest way.

  1. Hardly a step above link-farms.

To think that even blogging is degenerating into a seedy also-ran to the more dishonest forms of creativity.

I remember when it was about expression, not generating revenue. Guess that is true about everything these days.

I’m not sure how I’m being dishonest if I am TELLING PEOPLE about advertising and it’s clear I accept it on this site. I’m sorry for being on of the millions of other bloggers who also make money from their blogs-there is one exception, I don’t make thousands like some and I don’t write BS content or outright copy posts from others. This is me. This is my blog. YOU and you alone have the choice to read, or not to read. Perhaps you’re a wee bit pissed that I’ll delete your comments if you “dishonestly” enter links for your own, seedy needs.

    Beth,
    64. I believe this could be considered obsessive/compulsive disorder. Ha
There are worse things. I’ve lived with it a lot longer than you. Enjoyed reading your “about”. Nice blog, btw.

  4. I can understand your frustration. Spamming in any form should not be tolerated. As search engine marketing is evolving and new social netwrorking sites and blogs are on the rise, unfortunately so is spamming. We run a blog ourselves and find that dealing with spams and junk marleting emails are increasing faster than the popularity of our own website.

i also encounter that kind of comments that’s why i moderated it.

  6. I hate spam as well. You should cut all the keywords comment spam out!

  7. I am not exactly sure what the problem is with people using their keyword. If they are reading your posts and making a positive contribution, why is that so bad? You should not feel you are getting used but helping other people. If you remove that ability you will reduce traffic and you will get less comments. Doesent seem logical to me.

What is a blog without comments? Use these guys for their comments, until the regular viewers start commenting on a regular basis. Once that has happened start moderating, adding no-follows and deleting any links.

A blog with a load of comments suggests its popular

Great Wall: To begin with, a majority of those who comment and use keywords/individual pages to gain page rank and backlinks don’t contribute. Saying, “Great post” isn’t my idea of joining in on a discussion. I consider it spam- simple as that. You’re using my site-as well as others, to gain what we worked hard for-without “cheating.” Although page rank loss doesn’t bother me as much anymore, this site was once a PR5- until the crack-down on pay to blog, and blog whores using legitimate sites to link back to their sites filled with paid links and Adsense ads, (which I find hilarious that Google has never seemed bothered by this).

Nici: I do allow certain “advertisers” to comment because they have relevant input, however, when I start seeing a domain-then an extension to a specific page, I know what they’re here for-it isn’t because they enjoy every word they read or the discussion- it’s to get what they want and bail. I don’t do that on other blogs and I think we all should expect the same respect in return. I honestly don’t know if my “regular readers” will return- I left this blog for 6 months- that’s a lifetime in the blogging world, which is why I’m considering leaving this domain and continuing with my other project. 4 years with a blog is a long time and honestly, as much as I have loved the readers throughout those years, part of me thinks it’s time to move on.

“advertise the honest way” how is it not the honest way? if the comment is honestly a comment why not be able to benefit from it? don’t u think it equals out?

  11. If you advertise your dofollow blog, chances are you are going to get more spam. This is just a natural result of sticking your bleeding finger into an ocean of sharks. You may start to get comments from people who just breeze over the article, and post a comment. This amigos, is called manual comment spam.

Not to say that these comments aren’t genuine, but you just have to be a little more careful while accepting comments.

I am all for giving back to contributing readers, but it requires a careful watch. Removing the nofollow attribute might be something to consider if you have time to ensure the commenting doesn’t get out of hand. Plugins like the Link Love plugin, allow you to give something back, while still maintaining the integrity of both your posts and your posts page rank.

Ill be honest with you i came to this site first to comment and gain a link, but after a while you kind of catch your self coming to the blog more often and enjoying the blog it self.

    I see no harm.
