I Shall Prevail, Or, Look Like A Complete Idiot-You Decide.
I know many people consider posting quotes on a blog as a bit cliche, but I’m using a quote despite this fact. When browsing through blogs on EntreCard one day, I came upon Inspirational Quotes, which I had read before, but the quote posted this day caught my attention.
Those of you who read this little thing I call my blog, know that I have/had the dream of talking to Diane Sawyer, who has been my role model since I was a young tyke of 17. If you aren’t aware of this, you can read the post, My Quest Is Still On To Receive A Pep Talk Phone Call From Diane Sawyer, which explains everything. Since the original post, no phone call, nothing. Zero. Zilch. However, things are looking up- I was hired as a GIS Coordinator for a major gas company, (the title sounds impressive, but I’ll basically be a member of a team of bitches for field techs, but I’ll be a bitch for the pay), and I begin work March 3. The job is still in a man’s world, though and I need a pep talk. I need a boost of confidence from someone I have admired for so long. Oh, sure, laugh if you will. But perseverance is what keeps us going in the realm of defeat. Hence, the reason for the quote:
Two young frogs fell into a bucket of milk. Both tried to jump to freedom, but the sides of the bucket were steep and no foundation was to be had on the surface of the liquid.
Seeing little chance of escape, the first frog soon despaired and stopped jumping. After a short while he sunk to the bottom of the bucket and drowned.
The second frog also saw no likelihood of success, but he never stopped trying. Even though each jump seemed to reach the same inadequate height, he kept on struggling. Eventually, his persistent efforts churned some milk into butter. From the now hardened surface of the milk, he managed to leap out of the bucket.
–From a teaching story by Paramahansa Yogananda
Ok, yes the quote happened to be about two frogs, but the message is what is of importance. Never give up, no matter how silly others think your “dreams” may be- no dream is foolish- only those who abandon dreams, are foolish.
If you’ve read this far, you’re asking yourself, “Ok, Beth, we get it, what do you want us, as bloggers to do?” I want you to write Good Morning America and tell my story. Link to my blog, or better yet, to the original post explaining my goal and the reasoning behind it. If you know me well, you know what I have been through, if you’ve even read my “About” page, you know something. I’m just a 35 year old woman, who hides behind the facade of humor in order to forget the regrets I have in life. In order to write to GMA, you have to go to their submission form here-Contact Good Morning America and choose the subject as “Comment.” Yes, there is legalese at the bottom, but I asked the attorney who helped me with my case against a former place of employment *cough* the state job and he said this:
Him: “Are you soliciting any unwanted material?”
Me: “I’m not selling her Amway if that’s what you mean.”
Him: “Then you should be ok.”
Maybe my “Six Degrees of Separation” theory will turn into “Twenty Degrees and a lot of hard work and luck,” but I’m not giving up on a dream.

Hi, interested in a writing challenge? I’ve been working – off and on – on a book which deals with contradictory folk wisdom. For instance: “Look before you leap” vs “He who hesitates is lost”.
The point has something to do with following your own internal compass, not others wisdom.
Can you come up with an opposing view to “just keep churning” and some folk history that supports it?
