Considering Starting A Business: IT Consulting.

I have the experience, I have the guts to do it, or, I think I do and it’s something I’ve been considering for a while. I did a search on different companies who provide IT consulting and found FastTeks.com. The consultants visit a business, or home and offer affordable services, providing the client with whatever the needs may be. I, of course would be doing the consulting on my own, with minimal start-up funding, but, could I do it? I’ve spent years telling friends and family what they need, both for home use and business-all for free. Why not start charging? It’s something to think about-then again, I always come up with these hair-brained ideas that never pan out.

Hey! I came across your blog thanks to Entrecard. I am currently working as an IT consultant, I used to work as a tech 2 years ago and then decided to start my own business with a co-worker. We broke up in November and now I’ve got all the clients. It’s scary and risky, and probably the most thankless jobs out there but its worth it.

  2. I say go for it. I will help you spread the word however I can. Create a page or new site and send me the link. I will give you Free advertising on my site.

I started my business in 1999 on a “shoe string budget” and with the help of several people and word of mouth, my business took off. I think you will find that most business owners will help you spread the word about your new business.

It was very scary for me because I am married and at the time, I had 3 teenagers still living at home. Teenagers can cost a lot of money, especially the boys. Our grocery bill alone was approximately $1000.00 per month.

At any rate, I say “Go for it!”. You are a smart person and I believe you will succeed.

Starting your own business is not that hard I’ve done it twice, once in Canada and then again here in England.

The hardest part was finding the first clients. Once I did, then give them good service and a bit of a deal on the understanding that they would pass on your card to others who need my services.

This I found to spread like wildfire and I never had to pay for advertising and always had clients lined up willing to wait for me.

And yes, it can be scary initially but you’ve just got to barrel ahead.

As they say, you’ll never know until you do it. It’s a definite case of mind over matter.

  5. I started my own software cosulting business 4 years ago and have been very successful. I HIGHLY reccommend reading “The E-Myth: Revisited” if you’re going to start a technical business and you have a technical background. It will help you avoid some of the typical pitfalls in IT consulting.

For custom software, Entrance is now on the first pages for both google and yahoo — you can do it too if you work hard!

  6. I have thought the same thing several times myself…I’ve worked in IT for over 10 years now…I know I could do it… maybe it’s just fear, maybe it’s having to find my own insurance…maybe I’m just scared I’ll enjoy work for a change.
I would say go for it…maybe you doing it will encourage me!
    Cheers…

@custom software. Thanks for the book recommendation….it’s on it’s way now from Amazon.
