How Would YOU Spend $50 On Your Blog?

Tough question, how would I spend $50 to improve my blog? A contest is going on over at A Blog About Nothing, asking this very question and giving readers the chance to win $50 to use for blog improvement.

Most are saying they would use it to increase traffic and overall blog exposure, but to me this is a risky move. You could come out ahead, or you could be sitting back a month later wondering where the heck the $50 went to and why your traffic and exposure hasn’t increased. I’ve decided I would spend the money on something practical, (for once in my life). My blog is coming upon it’s 3rd birthday and I have never had a header image I liked, or even came close to how I want to represent the domain name. I’m not an artist and I certainly have never been able to afford to hire a designer to do the graphics. So, I would pay to have a professional logo/header design of a frog-prince, a geeky princess, (who is, well, me), and a few other odds and ends created. I would know where the money went and that it was put to good use. I could then stop my attempts at drawing frogs, you have no idea how many times I’ve tried.

  1. Thank you for your entry! I’ve enjoyed reading your blog.

Thanks for the compliment. Now, let me win the contest. Look at the header. It screams, “Good God Almighty who did that?” :D

  3. Finance says:

Honestly, I think if someone gave me $50, I would most likely try to save it - LOL … right now I am looking for everyone possible way to save money and $50 sounds really nice in my bank account! That answer probably won\’t win the contest though - LOL

There’s all sorts of designers doing headers and logos for 5 and 10 bucks on the digital point forums. I’m trying to get a new header done for my blog. Here’s a link to the design forum:

I would spend it on nitrous oxide. It wouldn’t improve my blog, but I could breathe it in while reading it and it would at least SEEM funnier.

  6. Beth says:

Patrick: I’ll have to check the forums out- I never thought about going there to see how much a logo/header design would cost. Thanks for the tip!

Fabeo: Isn’t that stuff the best? Share with Mrs. Fabeo and she may forgive you for the penis bracelets.

I actually won $50 bucks in a blog contest and used the money to pay for a forum license, but if I would win another $50 I would spend on my personal blog for a header design as well!

  8. I agree with Patrick if you win the $50.00 don’t waste it on a header design. Go to DP and you’ll find great work for around $10.00. Up to the winner but that’s just my advice.

  9. Beth says:

I never thought about DP to be honest. So, I’ll use $10 on a header design and the other $40 I would probably split up into $10 amounts for contests. I’ve always wanted to have one but I can’t afford to give away money or gifts. Either that, or a few bottles of Jack Daniels.

  10. ROTUS says:

I didn’t win either. Maybe we should go spend $50 in some bar and commiserate.

  11. Beth says:

Sounds good to me. I let him know how rude I thought he was to those of us who did participate. His attitude certainly isn’t a way to keep readers!

  12. m07 says:

i think first i would have to earn 50$ from my blog for that.i get plenty of uniques but no clicks but i really don’t worry.blogging is my passion not my earner.

m07’s last blog post..I am just doing what you did last summer
