Postie Carnival For November 12- Family Edition.

familyThis is my first time hosting the Postie Carnival and although only three people submitted posts, reading through each made me realize no matter where we may be physically our “families” are with us, in mind, body and spirit. The topic I chose, mostly due to the holiday season approaching can be found in this post, What Does Family Mean To You?, certainly made me, as well as others think. Family doesn’t have to be someone you’re blood related to. Family are the people who mean the most to you in life.

Blueyes posts about how prefers to work during holidays, than to spend time with relatives because she feels it’s “expected” of her. Don’t worry Blueyes, I’ve felt this way many times as well. Just to let you know, I have officially adopted you as my sister.

Suni discusses family as I see it- a mixture of both blood relatives and friends, those who know the real you and love you under any circumstance. She also mentions the “anti-family”-and believe me, I have several of “those types” to deal with.

Lastly, Skeet, who uses my favorite line from Lilo and Stitch, Ohana means family-with her living in Hawaii no one could have said it better. Close friends there are her Ohana, while she shares the bond and love of her son from miles away.

As for me, family are those people in my life who take the time to understand and have faith in my decisions, good or bad. Being an only child it’s always been difficult, not having the bond of a brother or sister and so many moments exist in life when one needs that connection. I have a few close friends and cousins who have stepped in to take the place of siblings, but I consider my mom to be my “real” family. We both went through a lot when my dad passed away and we’ve spent the last 19 years supporting each other. I couldn’t have made it without her.

Eaglehawk forgot to send his post in, but I’m allowing a slip just this one time ;) . He talks about his wife and unborn child, (congratulations!), and many family members being scattered across several states. He also said he would be a different person if he had no one to call family.

Anyone is free to comment on his, or her feelings on what family means. Don’t be shy-because as bloggers we’re family even if it’s only through the Internet.
