The Girlie Geek’s Guide To Pimping A Laptop.

hello kitty laptop skinBeing a female and well, somewhat geeky when it comes to my interests pimping my laptop with Hello Kitty is a no-brainer. Sure, some will laugh, think I’m mental, or a complete idiot, but when I get the money, yes I am considering this one of my first geek projects.

Products needed:

  • See the laptop skin at the top? It’s currently on Ebay for $12.99, plus $7.50 shipping-actually very cheap when it comes to laptop skins. The skin fits up to a 15″ laptop and what do ya know, mine is 15 inches.
  • Fur. Depending upon the theme you choose, the color does matter. I couldn’t find “Hello Kitty Pink Fur” and believe me I searched like crazy, apparently this isn’t a popular product. Instead, I found this nice strand which can be cut into thin strips, then using velcro can be attached around the edges of the lid. Never use glue- velcro can be easily removed, even the sticky residue. You could even cut to fit some of the fur to fit the part of the mouse where your palm rests-imagine how comfy that would be.

  • Now, for a little bling. You can find rhinestones or swarovski crystal beads for reasonable prices. I thought maybe using these to outline the space around the keyboard,(my laptop has a small indentation around the keypad and the sides of the laptop), would work and possibly around the power button. It really depends on how the layout looks at this point, I mean I don’t want to overdo it.

There you have it. Pimping out your laptop for no more than $35-$40, depending on what you buy and if you can find deals and craft stores. The most expensive item will be the skin itself and as I said-always check Ebay. I looked at skin sites and some were more than $30-I don’t think so, dudes. I already have a pink laptop bag, hmmm, I could always pimp it up too, couldn’t I?

  2. Beth says:

LOL Me too, so much so I have her tattooed on my right shoulder. If I can get my cell phone cam to take a decent pic indoors I’ll post it lol

  3. Malin says:

Lol, I should pimp my laptop as well! Not very fond of Hello Kitty, but pink rhinestones would be spiffy!

  4. Beth says:

Malin: I really wanted to do frogs since I collect them, but I could only find one skin and it wasn’t pretty in the least. I even searched the skin sites, nothing, I could submit a picture of my own but then the cost just keeps going up. Hey-if guys can have clear PC cases with blue LED lights, we can have rhinestones and leopard prints LOL

  5. Oh. My. God. This is almost as good as the Hello Kitty assault rifle. In fact, it’s better, because no one dies.

Now I have to find a theme for my old iBook to give it new life.

  6. Beth says:

LOL that rifle cracked me up. Those wacky Japanese- guns, pleasure devices, microwaves, all based on a cartoon character!

  7. El Rojo says:

Oh, I bet my gf would love the bling bling. The HK skin? Not that much, I bet an Eeyore one would be better. It would make a great Christmas present.

  8. Secretely says:

That is so cool! I didn’t know you could pimp your laptop… I’m gonna look for skins on Ebay now ;)

  9. Beth says:

El Rojo: I saw an Eeyore skin on ebay! They had a lot of winnie the pooh character skins.

Secretely: It’s addictive once you start looking- I almost went blind last night doing so.. and believe me if I had the money, I would buy the Hello Kitty skin lol
