Since I took a break from blogging, I’ve found it really difficult to get back into the swing of things. Coming up with interesting and informative posts when you have the attention span of a gnat, isn’t an easy task. I have also noticed something else: either people despise me beyond belief, of due to my lack of posting they’ve forgotten I exist. I received an email overnight from someone I believe posts on a forum I go to from time to time, accusing me of “stealing her idea of boycotting Google.” For the record, if the email address and name are real, I have no idea who this person is-and no blog URL was provided.
Let me just state- I have never stolen an idea from anyone. In fact, when I do find something of interest, to not only me, but those who read my blog, I make it a point to link to the original post or blog. Take a look at the “Interesting Linkage” category on the sidebar. Sometimes it’s best to step outside of the box you’re in and view the opinions of others. Just because you post 2000 times on a message board-you’re not an expert of the only blogger with an opinion or idea. Someone even commented in my post about my crusade against Google about a post she had written last week. I had never read the blog so I had no idea the post existed. Did I jump at her and say, “How dare you post your link in the comments of my blog.”? Of course not. I see it as a meeting of the minds and I plan on visiting the blog more often. THIS is what blogging should accomplish-bringing together those of us who, in our “real” lives may not have much in common.
No, Blogging Doesn’t Make You An Expert.
Codango Labs: Reviews And Resources For The Web-Development Community.
If you’re a web developer, or interested in resources ranging from asp, asp.net, jsp and php, you may want to take a look at Codango-a site providing reviews based on hands on testing of applications. I browsed through the PHP section and found several items of interest, resources for Joomla, WordPress and others. A recent review of the XSE Shopping Cart is provided below.
Codango Labs just released a new ASP.NET application review of XSE Shopping Cart. They took XSE for a whirl around the virtual store and found that its extensive features and excellent technical support made it a solid ecommerce app. They did say that its one squeaky wheel is its UI, but nevertheless, it’s a shopping cart that’s ready to roll. Check out the Full Review.
Four Foods On Friday.
Well, since blueyes tagged me with this and since it discusses foods, I have to do it. I don’t usually do memes now, and the only one I will start back with is Blog Your Blessings Sunday.
Anyway, this was started by Fun, Crafts and Recipes and if you decide to participate comment on that blog with the link to your post. On Friday a summary of all participants will be posted. Yes, when I first read blueye’s post I so wanted to tell her, uh today isn’t Friday, but then I read the other blog.
1. How do you like your eggs cooked? Any special ingredients? I refuse to eat eggs. They smell like vomit and dirty feed. Enough said.
2. What’s your favorite cold sandwich, made on two pieces of bread? This would have to be bologna, cheese and mustard. Being from West Virginia, bologna is a necessity.
3. What is your favorite pie? If made right, apple. If the apples are the least bit hard when I bite into it, then I’ll spit it out. I also have a thing for chocolate pie.
4. Name one food you refuse to eat and why. Eggs, because as I stated above, they smell like vomit and dirty feet.
5. What’s the name of your favorite restaurant, and is it small or part of a chain? The place I loved to get home cooked meals closed- it was named after the owner, Virgil, so, we called it "Virgil’s." They had the best hot dogs in the world.
My One-Woman, Ban Google Crusade.
Well, it seems Google did yet another update over-night. My page-rank, which was a 5 for two years, has now dropped down to a 3. Why? Because I am paid to write posts or provide advertising to companies. Google, who started out in a garage and up against the big dog at the time, Yahoo, seems to forget their humble beginnings and want to punish those of us trying to make our mark and make a little money at the same time. So what am I doing about it? I no longer use Google to search the web- I use Yahoo, or Ask.com. I have un-installed the Google Toolbar, I no longer use Google Reader, Google Earth and Google Desktop are history. To be honest the only reason I started using Google as a search engine was due to the fact it loaded faster as a home page in my browser. Not because I found it superior. Will this make Google fall to the ground? No. But every little bit helps. If you want to join my crusade, listed below are a few tips:
Do as I did-stop using anything Google. Un-install Google Earth, Google Desktop, don’t use Google Reader, DO NOT for any reason use Google as your search engine. Do not use Adsense- we all know very few make money from it anyway, except for those who kiss Google’s ass and, well, Google. If you visit a blog or website using Adsense and you see a product you’re interested in- DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. Not only is the owner of the site making money, but Google as well. Back away, go to Yahoo, Ask.com, MSN, and do a search. Most of the “deals” on Adsense aren’t really deals and I can guarantee if it’s something you buy, you can find it cheaper someplace else.
If you want, leave a comment about how you would get back at Google if you could- or, if you plan on doing any of the above.
