I Need A MySpace Intervention.

I swore I would never use it. I’ve made fun of the people who do. I once said it was a waste of space. However, I have fallen victim. Just take a look at the screenshot of my profile page:

I leave comment tags on other profiles. Glittery pictures. Pictures I know are way too wide for the space I’m adding the code to. I can’t help myself. I don’t mind it when friends insert images such as this:

It’s Hello Kitty for goodness sakes. I can’t say no to her. I can get away with it on MySpace. I don’t have to worry about people judging whether or not my content is “key”, how many hits I receive, or my page rank and other ratings. I can be a more realistic version of me, where I once could on this blog, I feel as if I’m being held hostage by critics who will, without warning, bash and stop reading just because I do or say something not considered, “good blogging etiquette.” I thought blogging was freedom-freedom to share who I am with complete strangers without the fear of being judged? When was the last time you read a blog and said, “Now that’s a fresh idea.”? Debate it if you want, but we have all become one giant blogger. Writing the same pieces day after day. Sure, we word things in a different manner, we put our “spin” on the topic. But we are far from being original anymore. And you know what? From this point forward, I will be original. Aside from the paid posts, which at the moment are helping me live, I will be who I am. If I want to tell the world that I have cramps and my nail polish is chipped, so bit it. Who wants to join me?

Go for it! The more original the better! Although, I’m not sure I can stand too many posts about chipped nail polish.

Oh, and count me in as someone who published an unhinged rant about Myspace on their blog but now has a profile. At least I’ve kept the epilepsy-inducing animations off, for now.

If anyone is interested, the unhinged Myspace rant is here:

I have a personal blog on blogger that will never have type of monetization on it, or promote at all, for the same purpose. Although people never post glittery hello kitty on it.

  4. m says:

No thanks, I’ll pass on the myspace bit…

  5. Beth says:

Markk: I have a zit under my nose- is that better?

Sarkastic: Everyone needs a glittery Hello Kitty. The world is better because of her.

    m: To each his own.

  6. I’m not into the MySpace thing, but I’m all for people being original with their blogs. Whatever helps you express yourself the way you want to is cool with me.
