Oh, Those Wacky Japanese.

As I was browsing ThinkGeek.com, I came across an item which fascinated me. Apparently, in Japan, one can communicate using just hands, nose, arms and other body parts. The book, 70 Japanese Gestures, will provide you with full illustrations of gestures supposedly used on the streets of Japan. Insults, compliments, even flirting are some of the examples. I’m curious, though. Is this real, or are the Japanese trying to make us Americans look even more like idiots when we’re in your country?

I’ve lived in Japan for six months out of the year for the past seven years and I have NEVER seen anyone gesturing in the ways depicted on the cover of that book!!

Don’t worry, they ARE real! What drew our company to publish the book was how many we had seen from living in Japan or working at Japanese companies in the US. I once had a Japanese coworker who always pointed to his nose instead of his chest, and when I started to do the same, it always made him laugh.

LOL….I can’t believe I actually got the publisher to comment. Send me a free copy! I could confuse the rednecks around here. That’s too funny about the gestures, though. I’d love to see some in action.

I’ve been watching this show on the G4 network called Ninja Warrior- basically it’s a bunch of Japanese men running this horrible obstacle course just to get to the next round- it’s hilarious.
