$4.88 Plasma Television At Wal Mart.
As my regular readers know, I am quite the connoisseue, if you will, of Wal Mart. I know my local store inside and out. I could go to any Wal Mart in the world and tell you where a specific item was. However, I have never even considered the following. According to an article on Yahoo! News, a man paid $4.88 for a plasma television by replacing the price sticker, the original of $984, with one he felt was, well, a better price. He was charged with felony theft after Wal-Mart’s loss and prevention people watched the transaction. (He used the self-check out, brilliant idea).
Did he really steal it?
My question is, how can it be called theft if, technically, he paid for the television? Sure, it wasn’t the price Wal Mart wanted it to be, but hey, aren’t items supposed to scan by the bar code and not a sticker? I know my Wal Mart works in this manner. The man was simply paying what he felt he could pay. Now, I can understand if he walked out of the store without paying a dime, but he did pay something. I’m not condoning his actions, I’m just pointing out how stupid people can be. Have any of you ever reached the check-out line and noticed an item rang up for a lower price than what was stated? If so, did you say anything, or let it slide?

I thought the term stealing was a little harsh. Stupid, yes. I guess if you saw a box of crackers & just took one out of twenty crackers because that was all that you needed, it’s still stealing, even though it is a more thoughtful theft. My trip through the self check out aisle usually results in me paying more money because I can’t figure out how to ring up a sales price.
Is it really premeditated murder if nothing went according to plan?
Sarkastic: lol I like how you consider stealing a cracker “more thoughtful”- like you really took that cracker’s feelings into consideration. And I loathe the self check-out lanes. Most of the time the bar codes won’t scan and I end up spending more time there than I would have if I had waited in a long line.
Christopher: We’re talking about a redneck dude who came up with what he thought was a brilliant idea to get a plasma television cheap. He didn’t kill the cashier and claimed innocence because he wasn’t holding his mouth right when he pulled the trigger.
True. My remark was more of a general thought that popped up in my head, on the subject of crime definition.
i work for wal-mart. i do watch the selfcheckouts! i cant wait to tell this story tomarrow…and i leave the custermers alone if i see them stealing! i just call the doors…muhahahahaha. i got to see a redneck steal 2 hats!(valued at about $10 for both of them) and get caught, some things just make me laugh.
