I’ve banned myself from all talkshows. I get absorbed. Way back when Oprah’s book club was new I read all the books (before I banned myself from daytime talk shows! LOL) she usually picks good book too, and every now and then if I’m at the book store and I spy the table with the Oprah book club marker on it, I’ll go check it out.
I don’t watch talkshows much less even be remotedly interested in what they deem book worthy but that’s just my opinion.
I remember reading East of Eden. Fascinating book. But it was ages ago and I keep mixing it up in my mind with Grapes of Wrath.
Probably should reread it.
Nice list.
My TT

I haven’t read any of these and I love Oprah. Not having television for the last five or six years has really left me out of the loop. I have read a few newspaper articles about the whole book club thing and I think Oprah gets a bad rap because some people don’t think anybody without a degree in literature has a right to an opinion about a book.
In my new found quest to read books that require actual thought, I’m going to set out to read some of these.
Loretta: I used to watch Oprah all the time but when my work schedule got in the way, well, I had to quit. You can go to her website and find a list of all the books she has added to her book club- the most recent book, “The Road”- excellent choice.
blue: you’re missing out on some good books dang it!
Douglas: East of Eden was ok- I don’t think at the time I was really in the mood to read it. Believe it or not I have never read Grapes of Wrath.
Marilyn: On my list the two that I HIGHLY recommend are “I Know This Much Is True” and “She’s Come Undone”, both by Wally Lamb. Excellent reads.
